"κράσπεδον" meaning in Ancient Greek

See κράσπεδον in All languages combined, or Wiktionary

Noun

IPA: /krás.pe.don/, /ˈkras.pe.ðon/, /ˈkras.pe.ðon/, /krás.pe.don/ (note: 5ᵗʰ BCE Attic), /ˈkras.pe.don/ (note: 1ˢᵗ CE Egyptian), /ˈkras.pe.ðon/ (note: 4ᵗʰ CE Koine), /ˈkras.pe.ðon/ (note: 10ᵗʰ CE Byzantine), /ˈkras.pe.ðon/ (note: 15ᵗʰ CE Constantinopolitan)
Etymology: Unknown. Traditionally analyzed as an old compound of κάρᾱ (kárā, “head”) (in the form κράσ-), with a faded second member πέδον (pédon, “plain, ground”), for which Sanskrit द्रुपद (drupada, “wooden pillar, post”) is compared. The first member would point to an original meaning "upper border", according to Risch. However, Nussbaum is very sceptical; there is no indication whatsoever that it would contain the word for "head".
